Ramping Up: Psychology, Sign Language, and the £2 Discovery

As the year draws to a close, the old "Am I doing enough?" anxiety crept back in. It’s the constant background hum of home education. But this time, instead of guessing, we asked Ash - and we asked her therapist.

The Agreement: Moving to Four Sessions

In a surprising turn of events for a child who spent September struggling to get out of bed, Ash declared again she was bored. In agreement with her therapist, we decided she had the mental capacity to ramp up. We agreed to add an extra session to her daily routine, taking her to four "learning slots" a day for the start of 2026.

The problem? We’d exhausted the options that interested her on Learn, Laugh, Play. We needed fresh inputs.

The £2 Discovery

We cast the net wider and stumbled upon a site called the Two Pound Tuition Hub. Like LLP, they offer live zoom sessions with tutors, but the pricing structure is... well, I’ll let you do the maths on that one as homework.

What really caught our eye wasn't just the price, but the variety. While they cover the staples, they also had some wonderfully off-kilter sessions that you just don't see on a standard Year 7 timetable.

The 2026 Mix

Ash scrolled through the list and her eyes lit up. She didn't pick more English or History. She picked a mix that is entirely her. So, as of January, our "timetable" looks a little different:

  • Baking: Practical maths, chemistry, and... well, cake. What's not to like?
  • Psychology: She wants to understand how brains work. Given her own neurodivergent journey, this feels incredibly empowering.
  • British Sign Language (BSL): A communication skill she chose entirely on her own.

This is the freedom we were promised. If she was in school, she’d be doing Geography on a Tuesday afternoon whether she liked it or not. Instead, she’s learning how to sign and how to bake a Victoria Sponge. I know which one I’d prefer.

We are locked in. The schedule is set in the App. 2026 is looking busy.
